Sonora12-week beginner program

Your path starts here

If you're just starting out, or you started and stalled, this is where you begin. The path is already built: ten levels in order, and an app that tells you what to play each day. 233 lessons, 20 real songs.

The curriculum

Ten levels, and what each one actually gives you

Level 1 starts at how to hold the instrument. Level 10 ends with barre chords in two shapes, the pentatonic across the neck, and Hotel California.

We start at ground zero. How the guitar works, how to sit with it, and how to get a single note to ring clean instead of buzz. You finish the week playing a real melody, which matters less for the melody than for what it proves about your hands.

“My wife told me I progressed more in the six weeks of the beginner bootcamp than in months of trying it on my own.”
Brandon FrenchBeginner Bootcamp
“I didn’t know anything about guitar, not a lot of music, when we started. That is kind of why I really wanted to get with y’all, and I am so glad I did. I am proud of my progress, for sure.”
Matt HollowayBeginner Bootcamp, then mentorship
“Before this course, I felt very stuck, and I was just doing the same things over again. Now it feels like when I have the guitar on my lap, there is an endless amount of new stuff to try.”
Rishi BajajMentored by Carter Arrington
“You and I are working on very fundamental things, very simple things, and all the ways that it has seeped out into the rest of my playing is so cool. So much more confidence, and the ear is so much better.”
Ciarán WillisMentored by Trevor Giancola
“I would recommend this to anybody that could afford it and put the time into it. In a millisecond. I was stuck. I am unstuck.”
Chris DeRoseMentored by Zakk Jones
“This app is the best way to learn how to play the guitar online that I have experienced. The progress I am making makes me want to make more progress. As something of a perpetual absolute beginner, that is exactly where I want to be.”

Two ways to do it

On your own, or with someone watching your hands

Same curriculum, same app, same songs. The difference is whether anyone sees you play. Mentorship here is video feedback, daily practice sessions and group classes, not private one‑on‑one lessons.

The mentored program

Twelve weeks of someone in your corner

Adults do not quit guitar because the material was too hard. They quit because they could not tell whether they were doing it right, and nobody noticed when they stopped.

1

Video feedback, not a comment box

You film the assignment. Your mentor picks up their own guitar and films a reply showing you exactly what to change, which you can rewatch whenever you practice.

2

Daily guided practice

A live session every weekday where an instructor practices with you, on camera. Bad habits get caught in week two instead of month six.

3

Group classes at your level

Live classes built around where the group actually is that week, so playing in front of people gets easier.

4

Someone who notices when you go quiet

A mentor who knows your name, your goals and what you worked on last week. Adults quit guitar because nobody notices they stopped. This fixes that.

A mentor thread in the Sonora app: the student's submitted video, the mentor's video reply, and the assignments rail showing revision requested
You film the assignment. Your mentor films the answer. Both live in one thread you can scroll back through all twelve weeks.
The Sonora calendar showing weekly group classes, a live group Q and A, and office hours
Guided practice runs every weekday. Group classes and office hours sit on the same calendar, one click to join.

What changed

A course you watch is not the same as a program you practice

The Bootcamp runs inside the same practice app our advanced students use: it holds your place, puts today’s work in front of you, and brings a lesson back right before you would have forgotten it.

One path, not a menu

Ten levels in order. Nothing unlocks before you are ready for it.

Watch, then play it back

Filmed close enough to see the fingering, with a looper and speed control built into the player.

Practice that counts itself

Log a session and the app tracks your streak, your minutes and where you stand.

Notation that follows along

You never have to guess what you just heard

Every exercise carries notation, TAB and a chord diagram, and the cursor tracks the video as it plays. Slow it down, loop four bars, or switch to the overhead camera.

  • Two camera angles
  • Speed control
  • Loop any section
  • Chord diagrams

Questions

Before you start

Still not sure? Email contact@learnwithsonora.com and a person will answer.

No. Level 1 starts at how to hold the instrument and how to tune it. If you own a guitar and can find an hour most days, you are ready.

The guitar in the corner has waited long enough

Most people who pick it back up quit inside a month, not because it is hard but because nothing tells them what to do next. This does. Ten levels, in order, starting tonight.
